CREATIVE DIALOGUES: Art, Campus, and Community
July 1 - October 18, 2008
Grades K-12 Look out Philadelphia--Public Art is springing up all over Camden! See plans, photographs, and a video tour of ten public artworks located on or near the Rutgers Campus in Camden. Scientific elements are strong in several of the featured projects. In Growth, by artist Chris Freeman, the art, science, and engineering behind the creation, design, and installation of a large-scale architectural wall sculpture (made with neon tubing) will be explored. The Gateway project by sculpture Clyde Lynds is constructed of glass walls with fiber optic effects that glow at night, revealing the etched drawings in the glass. If weather permits, a tour of the campus-sited artworks will be included.

INTERRUPTED LIFE:
November 3 – December 20, 2008
Grades 9-12
Interrupted Life: Incarcerated Mothers in the United States looks at the challenges and triumphs of women struggling to maintain relationships with their families while serving prison terms. It is an exhibition of eight linked installation pieces examining the facts, experiences, policies and politics of incarceration in this country today. A highlight of the exhibition is INSIDE/OUTSIDE, a 12-foot corridor of paintings made by teenage artists that capture the artists’ individual and collective interpretations of the impact of incarceration on families. Curated by Rickie Solinger, the exhibition seeks to educate the community about the realities of incarceration, especially its effects on mothers and their children.

DOCUMENTING CHINA: CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY AND SOCIAL CHANGE
January 24- March 22, 2009
Grades 3-12
Did the Beijing Summer Olympics make you curious about China and its people? If so, this exhibition is for you! It also satisfies several social studies standards—an entire unit or project could be made around this exhibition. Through the dramatic works of seven Chinese photographers, we see the country from an insider’s point of view. With raw black-and-white and color images, photographers Liu Xiaodi, Jiang Jian, Zhang Xinmin, Luo Yongjin, Zhou Hai, Lu Yuanmin, and Zhou Min unveil the truth about China’s internal struggle—a battle between modern industrialism and the traditional, agrarian past that has sustained the country for thousands of years.

GENERATION TO GENERATION
May 4 - 22, 2009
Grades K-12
Did you know that the arts are the 4th largest sector of the economy? According to Alan Greenspan, U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman, “The arts develop skills and habits of mind that are important for workers in the new economy of ideas.” In this exhibition, art by graduating students will be used as a foundation for the study of the wide range of career opportunities in the creative industries. This is a selection of high-spirited, vividly realized, and keenly perceptive work -- in painting, drawing, photography, computer animation, graphic design, sculpture, and multi-media. Computer animation shorts using cutting edge techniques are always a highlight of this exciting exhibition.

NJCCCS: 1.1-1.5; 3.3, 3.4,3.5; 4.1,4.2,4.3; 6.5; 5.3, 5.4; 8.2; 9.1, 9.2
