Bridgebuilding 101: The Benjamin Franklin Bridge
There are several areas of focus in this workshop: 1) Experience the science and process of suspension bridge construction in a step-by-step fashion while you are making your own model bridge, and 2) the building of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge in its social and historical concepts. The intersections of engineering and aesthetics and infrastructure and community are explored through photographs, archival renderings, and vintage postcards. Participants will construct a suspension bridge. Most materials are supplied; each participant must supply a piece of cardboard, foam core or illustration board.
